What is Random String Generator?
Our Random String Generator produces arbitrary random strings from the character sets you select — not just passwords, but any mix of letters, digits, and symbols at any length. Where the password generator is tuned for credentials, this tool is the general-purpose version: you control the exact alphabet (for example, uppercase letters and digits only, no ambiguous characters like 0/O or 1/l) and the exact length, from short codes to thousand-character blobs.
That control matters whenever a system imposes its own format: coupon codes, invite tokens, test fixtures, and filenames all have constraints a password-focused generator would get wrong.
How to use
- Enter the string length you need — 8 for a coupon code, 32 for a session token.
- Choose the character sets: lowercase, uppercase, digits, symbols, and options to exclude similar-looking characters (0, O, 1, l, I).
- Set how many strings to generate at once if you need a batch, then click generate.
- Copy the strings individually or as a batch and paste them into your codes list, test script, or database seed.
Common use cases
- Promo and coupon codes: a shop owner generates 500 unique 10-character alphanumeric codes (excluding ambiguous characters so customers don't mistype them) for a holiday sale.
- Test data: a QA engineer seeds a staging database with random usernames, order references, and transaction IDs to test search, sorting, and uniqueness constraints under realistic-looking data.
- Invite and referral tokens: a startup founder creates single-use invite codes in a custom alphabet that avoids profanity-prone or confusing characters.
- Temporary filenames and IDs: a developer generating unique temporary file names or cache-busting query parameters needs guaranteed-unique-looking strings without setting up a library.
FAQs
How is this different from the Password Generator?
The password generator is optimized for one job: strong credentials, with sensible defaults for length and character mix. The random string generator gives you full control — custom alphabets, exclusion of ambiguous characters, batch generation, and arbitrary lengths — for everything that isn't a password: codes, tokens, test data, and identifiers.
Are the strings cryptographically random?
Yes — the tool draws from your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, the same source used for TLS session keys. Each character is independently random, so the output suits tokens, salts, and anything where unpredictability matters.
Can I generate many strings at once?
Yes. Set the quantity field — for example, 200 coupon codes — and the tool generates them all in one batch, each independently random. Duplicates are possible in theory but vanishingly unlikely at reasonable lengths.
Is anything I generate stored or transmitted?
No. Everything is produced locally in your browser; there is no account, no signup, and no server logging. Close the tab and the strings are gone — so save anything you need before you leave the page.
