Random Word Generator
Quickly generate a list of random words for brainstorming or testing
Word Pool
A quick run of placeholder words
Some testing jobs call for just a handful of words: a headline of six words, a tag list, a search box with sample input, or a button label that has to grow and shrink. This tool returns a run of words in one click and lets you copy them all. Before you use it, know what kind of words it returns, because the name suggests more variety than the tool provides.
How to use it
- Enter a number in Word Count. The default is 12.
- Click Generate Words.
- The words appear in large text inside the Word Pool box.
- Press Copy All to place them on your clipboard as one line separated by spaces.
Where the words come from
The generator does not draw from a dictionary of English words. It takes the opening words of the classic Lorem Ipsum passage, in order, starting with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, and stops at the end of that passage, which is 69 words long. Requesting 12 words always gives the same twelve words, and requesting 100 gives all 69. Punctuation from the source text, such as commas and full stops, stays attached to some words. So the tool is best described as a placeholder-word generator: predictable, Latin-looking and unrelated to meaning.
Realistic uses
- Filling a headline or subtitle slot with an exact number of words.
- Testing truncation, ellipsis and wrapping in a title field or button.
- Creating input for a word counter or text-processing script.
- Building a short sample sentence for a font or typography preview.
Limitations and tips
- Because results never change, do not use it for games, brainstorming prompts, naming ideas or vocabulary practice. A word list from a dictionary would suit those better.
- Enter a whole number above zero. An empty or invalid value returns nothing.
- The output is one line of text. To put each word on its own line, paste it into an editor and replace spaces with line breaks.
- For sentence-shaped filler, use a sentence or paragraph generator instead, which keeps the passage's punctuation and capitals intact.
The words are assembled in your browser using JavaScript, so the result appears immediately below the form.
