Reverse a URL slug into readable words
Slugs such as how-to-build-a-pdf-workflow are great for URLs but awkward everywhere else. When you need a page heading, a spreadsheet label or a link description for a page you only know by its address, retyping the words is slow. Slug to Text swaps the hyphens and underscores for spaces and offers the result in several letter cases so you can copy the one you need.
How to convert a slug
- Type or paste the slug into the Enter Slug (hyphen or underscore) box. The Paste button pulls text straight from your clipboard, and Clear empties the box. A character counter tracks the length.
- Click Convert to Text.
- Look at the Readable Title panel at the top of the results, where every word starts with a capital letter, then press Copy Title.
- Below it, use Copy on the Sentence Case card (first letter capitalized, the rest lowercase) or the Capitalized card (all uppercase).
What the conversion does
Any run of hyphens or underscores becomes a single space. Nothing else is changed: the tool does not add punctuation, restore apostrophes, split joined words or check spelling. That keeps the output predictable, but it also means you will sometimes make small edits afterward.
Real situations
- Auditing a site's URL list and needing a human-readable page name next to each address in a spreadsheet.
- Writing anchor text or a table of contents from existing article slugs.
- Creating a draft heading when a CMS only gave you the slug of a page.
- Cleaning up file names such as quarterly_sales_report by turning underscores into words.
Edge cases
Title case here capitalizes every word, including small words such as and, of and the, so a slug like the-art-of-war becomes The Art Of War. Adjust those by hand if your style guide keeps them lowercase. Because the tool lowercases everything except the first letter of each word in title case, acronyms such as php or seo will not come back capitalized either. Numbers stay as they are. If you paste a whole address, the protocol, domain and slashes will remain in the text, so copy only the final slug segment. Any file extension at the end, like .html, is also left in place. The conversion happens in your browser.
