Make a QR code from a link, a note, or any short text

A QR code is a quick way to move information from a screen or a piece of paper to a phone. Point a camera at it and the phone opens the link or shows the text with no typing. This generator builds one from whatever you enter, which can be a web address, a plain message, a phone number, an email address or a product reference. It uses a dark navy on white colour scheme, which gives strong contrast for scanners.

Creating a code

  1. Enter your content in the QR Content (Text or URL) box.
  2. Choose a QR Size of 128 x 128, 256 x 256 (the default) or 512 x 512 pixels.
  3. Select an Error Correction level: Low (7%), Medium (15%), Quartile (25%) or High (30%, the default).
  4. Click Generate QR Code and the code appears below.
  5. Press Download PNG to save it as qrcode.png, or Reset to empty the box and hide the result.

If you change the text after generating, the old code is hidden so you never save a stale image.

Picking the right settings

Error correction decides how much of the code can be dirty or covered and still scan. Higher levels survive scuffs, folds and logos placed on top, but they add more squares, so the code looks denser. For a code that will be shown on a screen at a decent size, Low or Medium keeps the pattern simple and easy to read. For a sticker, poster or packaging that might get scratched, keep High. Choose a bigger size when the code will be printed or viewed from a distance, because a larger image gives each square more pixels.

Common uses

  • Linking a printed flyer, menu or business card to a web page.
  • Sharing a short note, serial number or asset tag that people can scan into a phone.
  • Putting an event page or a review link on a poster or a receipt.
  • Making a quick code to test a scanner app or a workflow.

Things to be aware of

The code is built in your browser with the open-source qrcode.js library, loaded from a CDN. Longer content produces a denser code and there is a limit to how much text one code can hold; a long paragraph or a large URL with tracking parameters may fail to generate or be hard to scan, especially at High error correction. Shorten links first if you can. The download is always a PNG with the colours fixed, so there are no colour, logo or SVG options here. Test the finished code with a real phone before printing many copies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I put inside the QR code?
Any text: a web address, a sentence, a phone number, an email address, or a reference number. The scanning app decides what to do with it, for example opening a link if the text is a URL.
Which error correction level should I choose?
Use High (30 percent) for printed codes that could get scratched, folded or covered by a logo, and Low or Medium for clean on-screen use, where a simpler pattern is easier to scan. The default is High.
What file format is the download?
A PNG named qrcode.png at the size you selected, either 128, 256 or 512 pixels square. There is no SVG export, so for very large print jobs choose 512 and test the sharpness before printing.
Why does my long text not produce a working code?
One QR code can only store a limited amount of data, and higher error correction reduces that capacity further. Shorten the text or URL, or lower the error correction level, then generate again.
Can I change the colours or add a logo?
Not in this tool. The code is always drawn in dark navy on a white background, which scans reliably. If you overlay a logo yourself in an image editor, keep the error correction at High and test it.
