One button for the usual text clutter

Copied text often carries baggage: leftover HTML tags from a web page, emojis from a chat export, stray symbols, and spacing that has been stretched in every direction. Clean Text Formatter bundles four common cleanups into a single pass so you do not have to run several tools one after another. You decide which of the four steps apply, and the tool shows how much of the original text was stripped away.

Using it step by step

  1. Paste your text into the Source Text box (the paste icon fills it from your clipboard, and the bin icon clears it). A live word and character count sits above the box.
  2. Under Cleanup Options, tick the steps you want: Remove HTML, Remove Symbols, Remove Emojis and Normalize Spaces. All four start ticked.
  3. Click Clean & Format Text.
  4. Read the result in the output card, then use the copy icon or the download icon, which saves polished-text.txt.

What each option really does

  • Remove HTML lets the browser parse your input as markup and keeps only the text content, so tags disappear and entities such as & become normal characters.
  • Remove Symbols keeps only the letters A-Z, digits 0-9 and whitespace. Everything else is dropped, including commas, periods, apostrophes, accented letters and non-Latin scripts.
  • Remove Emojis deletes emoji and a broad range of pictographic characters.
  • Normalize Spaces turns every run of whitespace, including line breaks, into one space and trims the ends.

Good uses

  • Cleaning a description copied from a web page before it goes into a spreadsheet cell.
  • Preparing keyword lists or tags where punctuation and emojis would cause trouble.
  • Sanitising social media captions for a plain-text system.
  • Flattening an email body into a single tidy paragraph.

Watch out for these

The symbol step is aggressive. Because it keeps only basic Latin letters and digits, text such as Cafe with an accent, Spanish or German words, or any Arabic, Chinese or Cyrillic content will lose characters. Untick Remove Symbols for multilingual text. Also, because Normalize Spaces removes line breaks, a multi-paragraph document comes out as one block; untick it if you need to keep the layout. The Clean Efficiency figure is simply the share of characters removed, not a quality score. Processing happens with JavaScript in your browser page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my accented letters disappear?
The Remove Symbols option keeps only A-Z, a-z, digits and whitespace, so characters like e with an accent, n with a tilde or any non-Latin letters are treated as symbols and removed. Untick Remove Symbols when you are cleaning text in other languages.
Can I keep my paragraphs and line breaks?
Yes, but untick Normalize Spaces. That option converts every whitespace run, including new lines, into a single space and joins everything into one block. With it off, the other cleanups still work and your line structure remains.
What does Clean Efficiency mean?
It is the percentage of characters removed, calculated from the original length minus the cleaned length. A higher number just means more was stripped out. It does not measure how good the cleaned text is.
Does Remove HTML handle special characters like &?
Yes. The input is read as HTML by your browser, so entities such as & and < are converted to their plain characters when the tags are removed. Note that if Remove Symbols is also ticked, those characters may then be deleted.
Can I download the cleaned text?
Yes. Use the download icon in the output card to save the result as polished-text.txt, or the copy icon to place it on your clipboard. Both use the cleaned text currently shown.
