Fake Name Generator

Generate realistic identity profiles for testing and creative projects

Generated Identities

Placeholder names for testing and mock-ups

Real customer names have no place in a demo, a screenshot or a test database, yet every interface needs something that looks like a person. This generator fills that gap by combining first names and surnames at random and formatting them for whatever you are building. It creates names only: there are no addresses, emails, phone numbers or other profile details.

Generating a list

  1. Enter a number in the Quantity field. It starts at 10.
  2. Pick a Gender setting: Both, Male or Female. With Both, each name is randomly drawn from either group.
  3. Choose a Format: List Only puts one name per line, CSV Format adds an id,name header with numbered rows, and JSON Array returns a bracketed list of strings.
  4. Click Generate Names.
  5. Use Copy All to copy the results or Download to get a text file named fake_names.txt, whichever format you chose.

What to expect from the results

Names are built from short built-in lists of ten common English first names for each gender and ten common surnames such as Smith, Johnson and Garcia. That gives a limited pool, so when you ask for hundreds of names you will see repeats. The generator suits mock data where realism matters more than variety. It does not cover other languages or regions, and it is not designed to create unique identities.

Practical uses

  • Populating a user table in a staging database or demo app.
  • Filling a table or form in a design mock-up or screenshot.
  • Building a CSV file to test an import feature.
  • Creating sample JSON for an API example or unit test.
  • Making a quick list of characters for classroom exercises.

Tips

  • Set the quantity to a whole number greater than zero; an empty or invalid value produces no names.
  • For CSV imports, pick the CSV format so the header row is included, and rename the download from .txt to .csv if your tool expects that extension.
  • If you need duplicates removed, sort the list in a spreadsheet after copying.
  • Do not use generated names to impersonate real people or to create accounts on services that forbid fake identities.

Generation takes place in your browser using JavaScript, and results appear instantly below the form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it generate addresses, emails or phone numbers?
No. The tool creates full names only, a first name plus a surname. If you need other fields for test data, generate them separately or use a dedicated data generation library in your own code.
Why do I see repeated names in a long list?
Names are combined from small built-in lists: ten first names per gender and ten surnames. That allows only a limited number of combinations, so large quantities will contain duplicates. Remove duplicates afterwards if you need unique entries.
What do the three output formats look like?
List Only gives one name per line. CSV Format starts with an id,name header followed by numbered rows. JSON Array returns a formatted array of name strings. All three can be copied or downloaded.
Can I choose only male or only female names?
Yes. The Gender dropdown offers Both, Male and Female. With Both, each generated name is randomly taken from the male or female list. The surname list is shared across all options.
Are the names suitable for non-English data?
The built-in lists contain common English-language names only, so they work best for US or UK style test data. For other regions you would need to supply your own names or use a different generator.
