Designers and developers use Lorem Ipsum so that people judge spacing, typography and structure rather than reading the words. This generator returns the familiar Latin passage in the amount you ask for, with live counts of words and characters so you can match a length target.
Generating text
- Type a number into the Amount field. The default is 5.
- Choose the Type: Words, Sentences or Paragraphs. Paragraphs is selected at first.
- Click Generate Lorem Ipsum.
- Read the text in the Generated Placeholder box. The Word Count and Char Count tiles underneath update.
- Press Copy All to copy it, or Save TXT to download lorem_ipsum.txt.
How each type behaves
- Words returns the first words of the classic passage, beginning Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet. The passage has 69 words, so asking for more than that still gives 69.
- Sentences walks through the passage's five sentences in order and starts again from the first one when you request more than five.
- Paragraphs repeats the complete five-sentence paragraph the number of times you ask for, separated by blank lines.
Because the text is the standard passage rather than a random shuffle, results are predictable and identical each time. That is useful when you want repeatable placeholder text in screenshots or tests, but repeated paragraphs will look uniform in a design.

- Checking how a card or list item copes with longer or shorter descriptions.
- Producing a text block of a target word count for a typography specimen.
- Adding filler to a CMS theme during development.
Handy tips
- Use the character count to check limits such as meta descriptions, tweet lengths or database columns.
- Pick sentences for short captions, and words when you need something like a headline of about six words.
- Before launching, search your pages for the phrase Lorem ipsum to make sure no placeholder text slipped into the live site.
- Use a whole number greater than zero; an empty value gives an empty result.

Is the text random each time?
No. The generator uses the standard Lorem Ipsum passage in a fixed order. Words start from the beginning, sentences cycle through the five in the passage, and paragraphs repeat the full passage, so results are the same every time.
Why does asking for 200 words return fewer?
The words option draws from a single 69-word passage and stops at its end. To get more text, choose Sentences or Paragraphs, which repeat the passage, or generate several times and combine the results.
What do the Word Count and Char Count show?
They show the number of words and characters in the text currently displayed, so you can hit a target length. Use them to check limits for meta descriptions, captions or database fields before copying.
Can I download the result?
Yes. Save TXT downloads the current text as lorem_ipsum.txt, while Copy All places it on your clipboard. Both use whatever is displayed in the Generated Placeholder box at that moment.
Does Lorem Ipsum mean anything?
It is scrambled text adapted from a passage by the Roman writer Cicero, used since the 1500s as dummy copy. It has no meaningful message, which is exactly why it keeps attention on the layout rather than the content.
