Log Formatter
Clean, align, and beautifully format unstructured server logs.
Make raw log lines easy to scan by eye
Plain log output is a grey wall of text. The Log Formatter takes lines you paste, trims stray spacing, drops empty ones and adds colour to the parts your eye looks for first: the severity keyword and the timestamp. It is a readability aid for humans, useful when you need to skim a few dozen lines or share a snippet.
Formatting steps
- Paste your logs into Input Data. Click Sample for three example lines with INFO, WARNING and ERROR entries, or Clear to empty the box.
- Press Process Now.
- Read the highlighted lines in the results panel. The summary row shows how many lines were formatted.
- Choose Copy or Download to keep the result.
What gets highlighted
- ERROR, FAIL and FATAL appear as a red badge.
- WARN and WARNING appear in amber.
- INFO and DEBUG appear in blue.
- Timestamps shaped like 2023-10-01 12:00:00, with a space or a T between date and time, and optionally fractional seconds ending in Z, appear in green.
Each line is shown in monospace with a thin separator, and long lines wrap instead of scrolling sideways. Only the first level word found on a line is highlighted, and matching ignores case.
Where it fits
- Cleaning up a snippet before pasting it into a ticket or chat.
- Checking an application's log format while you develop it.
- Scanning a short access or job log for anything red before digging deeper.
- Preparing example log lines for documentation.
What it does not do
Despite the word format, it does not realign columns, change date formats, reorder fields or parse structured data. The text of each line stays as it was, apart from trimming leading and trailing spaces. The colours exist only on screen: when you use Copy or Download, you get plain text without the colour badges, saved as result.txt. Log-level detection is by keyword, so a message that happens to include the word error inside a longer sentence can be coloured too. For counting levels use the Log Analyzer, and for JSON lines use the JSON Log Viewer. The formatting happens in your browser.
