Markdown Table Generator
Quickly create professional Markdown tables with custom alignment and sizing
Skip the pipes and dashes: fill in a grid instead
Markdown tables are simple in principle and awkward in practice. One missing pipe or a separator row with the wrong number of dashes and the table falls apart into plain text. This generator lets you type the header and cells into a real grid and produces correctly formed pipe-table code for you.
Making a table
- Set Number of Rows (1 to 50) and Number of Columns (1 to 20) in the configuration area. The editing grid appears immediately.
- Type your column titles into the header row and fill in the cells below it.
- Pick a Default Alignment: Left, Center or Right.
- Click Generate Table Code.
- Copy the result with Copy Code, and check the Visual Preview beneath the code to see how it will render.
Empty headers are filled with Header 1, Header 2 and so on, and empty cells are written as a blank space so the row structure stays intact.
How alignment works
The alignment setting is applied to every column at once, written into the separator row as :--- for left, :---: for center and ---: for right. Right alignment is handy for columns of prices or quantities, and center suits short labels or status marks. If you need different alignment per column, generate the table and edit the separator row by hand, changing the colons for the columns that should differ.
Everyday uses
- Adding a feature comparison or pricing table to a README.
- Documenting API parameters with name, type and description columns.
- Building a changelog or schedule for a wiki page.
- Preparing a small data table for a blog post written in Markdown.
Things to be aware of
Changing the number of rows or columns rebuilds the grid and clears anything you have typed, so choose the size first and enter data afterwards. Cell text is copied as is: a literal pipe character inside a cell will break the layout, so type it as \| instead. Line breaks inside a cell are not supported by the single-line inputs, and long text simply produces long lines of code. The tool does not pad columns to equal width, since renderers ignore that spacing. The table code and preview are produced in your browser, and the preview needs the marked script, which loads from a public CDN.
