Convert Markdown syntax into clean, semantic HTML code

Turn simple Markdown into HTML you can paste anywhere

Some places accept HTML but not Markdown: an email builder, a legacy CMS field, a static page you edit by hand. This converter takes Markdown and produces the equivalent HTML, showing both the code and how it looks so you can decide whether it is ready to use.

Converting your text

  1. Paste Markdown into the Markdown Input editor, which shows line numbers and a line count in the header. Paste reads from your clipboard, and Load Sample fills in an example and converts it at once.
  2. Click Convert to HTML.
  3. Read the generated code in the HTML Output panel, then compare it with the Rendered HTML preview underneath.
  4. Use Copy or Download to keep it; the file is saved as converted.html.

Syntax that is supported

  • Headings written with #, ## and ### become h1, h2 and h3.
  • Double asterisks give b tags and single asterisks give i tags.
  • Lines starting with > become blockquote elements.
  • Lines starting with an asterisk and a space become list items, grouped in a ul.
  • Links written as [text](url) become anchor tags.
  • Blank lines split the text into paragraphs.

Scenarios

  • Preparing a short announcement written in Markdown for an HTML email.
  • Converting a simple product description before pasting it into a store admin field.
  • Learning what tags common Markdown syntax turns into.
  • Making a quick static snippet from notes.

Know the limits

This converter is deliberately simple and is built on a handful of pattern replacements rather than a full Markdown parser. It does not handle fenced code blocks, inline code, tables, images, numbered lists, headings deeper than level three, or lists that use a dash or plus sign. Paragraph wrapping is basic, so headings and lists can end up inside paragraph tags and the markup may not be perfectly valid; check it in the rendered preview. All items in a list are wrapped in a single ul element, so text between two lists can get swallowed. If you need full CommonMark or table support, the Markdown Editor Pro and Markdown Previewer tools render richer syntax and let you copy the resulting HTML. The output is not sanitised, and the preview renders it directly, so avoid pasting untrusted content. Conversion runs in your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Markdown features does this converter support?
Headings up to level three, bold, italic, blockquotes, asterisk bullet lists, links and paragraphs. Code blocks, tables, images, numbered lists and dash bullets are not converted and will appear as literal text.
How is this different from the Markdown Editor Pro?
This tool applies a small set of pattern rules and shows the raw HTML code beside a preview. The editor uses a full Markdown library and supports tables, code fences and more. Use the editor for complex documents.
Why does my list look wrong in the HTML?
List items are only recognised when a line starts with an asterisk and a space, and all items are wrapped in one ul. Use asterisk bullets, and separate lists with a full paragraph of text or convert them individually.
What is the downloaded file?
Download saves the generated HTML fragment as converted.html. It contains only the converted body markup, without html, head or body tags, so wrap it in a full page yourself if you need a standalone document.
Is the output safe to publish directly?
Review it first. The converter does not sanitise anything, so any raw HTML you type is passed through unchanged. Also check the paragraph structure in the preview, because simplified wrapping can produce awkward nesting.
