Randomized Output
One long random string, made to your length
Sometimes you just need a block of characters with no meaning: a long value to test an input field's maximum length, a filler string for a database column, or a sample token in a code example. This tool builds a single random string of the length you specify from a character pool you choose, and shows it in a box ready to copy.
How to generate
- Enter a number in Length (Characters). It starts at 128.
- Choose a Character Pool from the dropdown: Alphanumeric, Alphabetic Only, Numeric Only or Complex (Includes Symbols).
- Click Generate Random Text.
- Read the string in the Randomized Output box and press Copy.
The character pools
- Alphanumeric uses upper case and lower case letters and the digits 0 to 9, even though the label mentions only A-Z and 0-9.
- Alphabetic Only uses upper and lower case letters.
- Numeric Only uses the digits 0 to 9.
- Complex adds symbols such as ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + - = [ ] { } | ; : , . < > ? to the alphanumeric set.
Good to know about randomness
Characters are chosen with the browser's standard Math.random function. That is fine for filler, mock data and layout tests, but it is not a cryptographically secure source, so do not use this page to create passwords, API secrets or encryption keys. The site's Random String Generator uses a stronger random source and lets you choose your own character set, and a password manager is better still for real credentials. This tool creates just one string per click and has no download button, only Copy.
Everyday uses
- Testing how a form field or database column handles 128, 255 or 1000 characters.
- Creating a long unbroken string to check that a layout wraps or truncates it properly.
- Making a numeric-only sequence to test number formatting or validation.
- Producing symbol-heavy input to see whether escaping and encoding behave.
Tips
- Use a whole number above zero for the length. An empty or invalid value produces an empty string.
- Choose Complex when you specifically want to test special characters, such as quotes or angle brackets in HTML or SQL contexts.
- Very long strings are displayed with word breaks so they wrap inside the box; copying keeps the text as one line.
The string is produced in your browser by JavaScript and appears immediately.
