Text Obfuscator

Secure your sensitive text by transforming it into an unreadable, obfuscated format

Make text unreadable at a glance

Sometimes you want text to be harder to read casually: a spoiler in a screenshot, a hint in a puzzle, a note that should not jump out on a shared screen. The Text Obfuscator scrambles your input using one of three fixed methods and gives you a string you can paste elsewhere. The companion Text Deobfuscator on this site turns it back.

How to obfuscate text

  1. Type or paste the message into Sensitive Input.
  2. Pick an Obfuscation Level: Low (Standard), Medium (Advanced) or High (Deep Obfuscation).
  3. Click Obfuscate Now.
  4. Press Copy Secure Text to copy the output.

What each level actually does

  • Low converts the text to Base64 and then reverses the characters of that string. There is no prefix.
  • Medium raises every character code by 13, Base64 encodes the result and adds the prefix OBF-M-.
  • High encodes the text as UTF-8 Base64, converts each Base64 character to its hexadecimal code, joins them with dashes and adds the prefix OBF-H-. Output is much longer than the input.

Where it is handy

  • Hiding an answer or clue inside a shared document or quiz.
  • Keeping a note from being read by someone glancing at your screen.
  • Teaching how simple encodings work and how they can be reversed.
  • Storing a short string in a form that will not be picked up by naive keyword searches.

Read this before relying on it

  • This is not encryption. There is no key or password, and anyone with the deobfuscation steps can restore the text. Never use it for passwords, banking details, personal data or anything genuinely confidential.
  • Low and Medium work reliably for plain Latin characters. Text with characters beyond that range, such as many accented letters, Arabic, Chinese or emoji, may fail at those levels. Use High for anything non-Latin.
  • Any change to the output, even a missing dash or an extra space, can make it impossible to restore.
  • Keep the original text if you need it. The tool does not save anything for you.

The conversion is performed by JavaScript on the page, so the result appears instantly and changing the input clears the previous output.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is obfuscated text secure?
No. Obfuscation only makes text harder to read at a glance. It uses fixed, well-known transformations with no secret key, so anyone can reverse it. Use real encryption for anything sensitive, and never store passwords this way.
How do I turn the output back into text?
Paste the string into the Text Deobfuscator on this site. It reads the OBF-H- and OBF-M- prefixes or, without a prefix, assumes the Low method of reversed Base64, and restores the original wording.
Which level should I choose?
Choose High if your text contains accents, non-Latin scripts or emoji, because it handles UTF-8. Low and Medium are shorter but can fail on such characters. Any level offers the same level of protection, which is very little.
Why did nothing happen with my text?
The tool does nothing if the input box is empty. With Low or Medium levels, characters outside the basic range can also make the encoding step fail, so try the High level or simplify the text.
Why is the High output so long?
High converts the Base64 text into hexadecimal codes separated by dashes, which takes about three characters for every Base64 character. The prefix OBF-H- is added to the front, so expect the output to be several times longer.
