URL Slug Generator
Generate high-performing, SEO-friendly URL variations for articles and products
Three slug options plus a quick length check
Picking a permalink is a small decision you make for every page, and once the page is indexed it is awkward to change. The URL Slug Generator takes an article title or product name and shows three ways of turning it into a slug, then adds a short review with a score and tips. That lets you compare a complete slug against a trimmed one before you commit.
How to use it
- Type or paste your title into the Article Title / Product Name box. The counter above it tracks your word count.
- Click Generate Slug Variations.
- Look at the three cards under Recommended SEO Slugs and press Copy on the one you prefer.
- Read the SEO Analysis panel for the score circle and the Optimization Tips list.
The three variations
- Standard keeps every word of the title, lowercased and joined with hyphens.
- Short and Concise removes common filler words such as a, the, and, in, for and with, then keeps only the first five words that remain.
- Dated (WP Style) puts the current year and month in front of the standard slug, like 2026/09/your-title, matching the date-based permalink structure some WordPress sites use.
How the score works
The score starts at 70. It loses 20 points if the title runs beyond ten words, gains 10 when the title contains no filler words (or 5 when some had to be removed), and gains 10 if the original title has a digit. The maximum is 100. The tips list explains which of these rules applied. It is a rough guide to brevity, not a prediction of search performance.
Examples of when to reach for it
- Publishing a long-form guide whose full title would make an unwieldy address, where the short slug is easier to share.
- Naming product pages in a store so the addresses stay short and readable.
- Choosing between a dated and an undated structure when setting up permalinks for a new blog.
- Cleaning up a batch of draft titles before scheduling posts.
Things to watch
Punctuation, including hyphens already in your title, is removed rather than converted, so a title with well-known becomes wellknown; use a space if you want two words. Accented and non-Latin characters are dropped. The short version can lose meaning if the key word was on the filler list, so read it before using it. Numbers are kept in the slug, which is fine for lists but consider dropping years from evergreen pages. Everything is generated in your browser.
