WhatsApp Text Styler
Style your messages with Markdown and fancy fonts
Style a WhatsApp message before you send it
WhatsApp formats text through small markers: asterisks around a phrase make it bold, underscores make it italic, tildes strike it through, and three backticks give monospace. Remembering where each marker goes is easy to get wrong on a phone keyboard. This tool lets you add those markers to selected text with one click and also creates alternative letter styles you can paste into chats, statuses or your profile About line.
Using the styler
- Type your message in the Type your message box. A running Characters counter sits in the header.
- To format only part of the message, highlight the words and click *Bold*, _Italic_, ~Strike~ or ```Mono```. The chosen markers are wrapped around your selection. With nothing selected, an empty pair of markers is inserted where the cursor is.
- Click Generate Styled Messages to see the whole message shown in a green chat bubble in five styles.
- Press Copy for WhatsApp on the style you want, or Download (.txt) to keep all five.
The five generated styles
- WhatsApp Bold wraps the entire message in asterisks.
- WhatsApp Italic wraps it in underscores.
- Combined Style uses both, in the form asterisk-underscore-text-underscore-asterisk.
- Bubble Style converts letters to circled characters.
- Squared Style converts letters to boxed capitals.
Practical uses
- Highlighting a price, deadline or address in a group announcement.
- Striking out an old time and writing the new one beside it.
- Sending a short command or code snippet in monospace to a colleague.
- Giving a WhatsApp Business greeting or status a bit of visual identity.
Limits and cautions
The bold, italic and strike styles are real WhatsApp formatting, so they render only when the markers sit tight against the text without extra spaces inside them. The bubble and squared styles are different: they replace letters with special Unicode symbols and convert everything to lowercase first, so capital letters are lost. Both only affect letters A-Z, and digits stay normal.
The squared style is the least reliable. Some letters are not mapped to a boxed equivalent in this tool, so parts of a longer message can come out as odd symbols or unchanged. Look at the preview before copying it. Bubble text is generally safer, but contacts on older devices may see blank boxes, and it is harder to read for people using screen readers. Use the symbol styles for a short label, not a full paragraph.
