Extracted Users

List everyone who was tagged

Comment threads, community exports, Slack-style logs and meeting notes are full of @names. When you need to know who was mentioned, for reporting, follow-ups or outreach, scrolling through the text is slow. This tool reads pasted text and gives you a unique list of every @mention, and the matching is done by your browser when you click the button.

How to run it

  1. Paste your text into the box. The Paste button uses the clipboard, Sample loads a short comment mentioning @john_doe and @marketing_team, and Clear empties the input and resets counts.
  2. The Words badge updates as you type or paste, so you can confirm the full text arrived.
  3. Press the extract button.
  4. Names appear under Extracted Users, with the Mentions badge giving the count. Each row has a copy icon.
  5. Press Download List to save extracted_data.txt, which contains one mention per line.

What the search counts as a mention

A mention is an at sign followed by letters, digits or underscores, up to the first other character. That means @john_doe is captured in full, but @alice.dev is captured as @alice because the dot ends the name, and @mary-jane stops at @mary. The at sign is part of each result. Repeats are collapsed, and matching is case-sensitive, so @Sam and @sam are different entries.

Situations where it saves time

  • Building a thank-you list from everyone tagged in a giveaway or campaign thread.
  • Checking which team members were assigned in a long comment log.
  • Preparing a list of accounts to follow up with after an event thread.
  • Auditing a document for handles that need to be updated after a rebrand.

What to double-check

The pattern does not know the difference between a username and other text that contains an at sign. Email addresses are a common source of noise: an address like jane@example.com contributes @example to the results. If your material includes emails, scan the list and remove such entries. Handles containing dots or hyphens will be truncated, which matters on platforms that allow them. The tool cannot verify that an account exists. It also has no JSON export, only the text download and the per-row copy button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does an email address show up as a mention?
The search treats any at sign followed by word characters as a mention, so jane@example.com yields @example. Look through the list for domain-like entries and delete them, or remove email addresses from the text before you extract.
Are usernames with dots or hyphens captured fully?
No. Only letters, digits and underscores are treated as part of a name. @alice.dev is returned as @alice and @mary-jane as @mary. Names built only from those permitted characters are returned exactly.
Are repeated mentions counted once?
Yes. Each unique mention is listed a single time in order of first appearance. Case matters, so @Team and @team are separate entries, and the Mentions badge counts the unique entries shown, not total occurrences.
What does the downloaded file contain?
Download List saves a file named extracted_data.txt with one mention per line, including the at sign. It contains exactly what is shown in the results panel, in the same order.
Can it tell whether a mentioned account is real?
No. It works only on text patterns and has no link to any social network, so it cannot confirm that a handle exists, is active or belongs to the person you expect.
